Executive sparring partner means giving a founder or a sales leader an external counterpart, on a regular and confidential basis, to work through the decisions that commit the company.
Direct access to experienced operators. Real decisions, zero fluff.
What is executive sparring partner?
Executive sparring partner answers a structural situation. Leading a company means making fast calls on incomplete information, and most often alone. Your board expects a plan, your team expects a direction, and no one around the table has any real interest in contradicting you. Sparring creates the space that is missing: protected time, with someone who has nothing to gain from agreeing with you.
Book a discovery callA trusted partner by your side
Every founder, CEO, or CRO needs someone they can challenge — and be challenged by.
Our Sparring Partner model is designed for sales and go-to-market leaders navigating complex growth questions.
We bring deep operating experience, working weekly 1:1 to help you cut through noise, zoom in on high-impact actions, and make better decisions — faster.
Coaching, consulting, mentoring or sparring partner: which one to choose?
These four approaches are used as synonyms, yet they do not answer the same question.

Why we are not coaches?
The job of a certified executive coach is to help you find your own answers, and a good coach will not hand you the solution. It is a demanding, useful discipline, and it is not ours. We operate as peers: every Atscaler brings 15 to 25 years in sales, including more than 10 in leadership roles, in high-growth companies, many of which went public or were acquired. We have built teams, missed quarters, handled leader departures and segment shifts.
When you bring us a pipeline coverage issue, a comp plan or a VP Sales hire, we do not stop at asking questions. We tell you what worked, what failed, and under what conditions.
- We challenge your assumptions with operational experience, not with a questioning framework
- We share proven playbooks you can apply the following week
- We produce the work with you: territory planning, comp plan, hiring scorecard, forecast structure
You do not need another coach. You need someone who has already done the job.
Executive sparring or management support: what is the difference?
The distinction is simple and it changes the scope. Management support focuses on running a team: one-to-ones, activity reviews, individual performance tracking, skills development. It is aimed at your front-line managers. Executive sparring focuses on the decisions that commit the company: which segment to attack, which sales organisation to build, when to hire and when to wait. The two combine well but do not replace each other: sparring with a leader does not make their managers better. For them, our sales training is the right format.

Who is our sparring partner for?
In every one of these cases, executive sparring does not replace your judgement: it exposes it to someone who has already watched the situation play out, both ways.
Founders and CEOs of scale-ups
You still carry part of the selling, or you have just handed it over. The question is no longer whether you can close customers: it is how to make growth repeatable without you.
CROs, VP Sales and sales directors
You have a quota to hit, a team to grow and a board to convince, often with constrained resources.
The situations we work on most
- Building a first sales team and moving out of founder-led sales
- Opening a new geography or moving upmarket into a new segment
- Hiring, onboarding and setting up a sales leader for success
- Preparing a fundraise or a commercial due diligence, often alongside our sales audit
- Breaking through a growth plateau without breaking what already works
- Taking back control after a key leader leaves, pending a replacement or interim management

Structured, consistent, actionable
This is not occasional advice over coffee.
You get a dedicated operating partner, meeting with you weekly in a structured 1:1 format. We deep-dive into your core priorities, unblock your toughest problems, and help you stay focused on what truly moves the needle. We produce work with you.
Every session drives toward practical output.
How our sparring partner works?
The format is deliberately simple and highly regular. It is consistency, not intensity, that produces results. And that is what separates tailored sparring from a series of one-off meetings.
One hour of work per week, one-to-one
One hour a week with a co-founder or with your CRO, same day and same time. Every session has an agenda built on your priorities for the week: a call to make, a hire to decide, a number that is not behaving as expected.
This one-to-one sparring ends on a decision made or a deliverable started, never on a "let's think about it". Between sessions, you can reach us for the topics that cannot wait.
A confidential setting with no conflict of interest
Everything said in a session stays there. We report nothing back to your board, your investors or your teams, and we do not accept engagements that would put us in a position to arbitrate inside your organisation.
Without confidentiality, the whole thing is pointless, because you could not bring in what actually matters (a disagreement with a co-founder, a doubt about a hire, a concern about a number).
Access to the collective & knowledge base
Your counterpart is not on their own. You get access to the Atscale knowledge base (templates, standardised deliverables, frameworks already proven) and to the collective's network of experts for ad hoc conversations on topics outside their scope: Customer Success, Marketing, RevOps, sales tech stack.
Ad hoc support for your team
The setup also includes team support on request: backing a manager stepping into a new role, preparing a tense pipeline review, or sitting in on interviews for your key roles. For a structured programme, see our sales training.
What we measure:
the impact on your revenue
The sparring market is happy to measure "personal progress" or a "human return on investment". We prefer metrics your board knows how to read. In our model, executive sparring partner only makes sense if it moves numbers.
In the first session, we agree on a small number of indicators together, chosen from:
- pipeline created and pipeline coverage,
- Win rate & average deal size
- Quota attainment
- New hire ramp-up
- Forecast accuracy
- Net Revenue Retention (NRR)
No vague leadership theories. Only concrete operational metrics tracked quarter after quarter.
Commitment and format
12 months Sparring Partner Program, cancellable at any time upon 4 weeks notice
Extra deliverablesOn-request access to Atscale’s knowledge base with templated models and deliverables
- One hour Weekly Working Meeting with 1 co-founder / CRO
- Ad-hoc team mentoring & support
- Participation to key hires
- Access to all Atscale Operating Partners and Atscale’s network of industry and practice experts for ad-hoc calls (eg. CS, Marketing, Revenue Operations)
The programme runs over 12 months, cancellable at any time with four weeks' notice. Those twelve months are not a commercial clause: they match the length of a full cycle, the time it takes to build a plan, roll it out, measure and correct. A few weeks of sparring can handle an emergency, not change a trajectory. The short notice period, for its part, makes sure you stay for the value and not for the contract.
The format includes the weekly session, availability between sessions, access to the knowledge base and conversations with the collective of experts. If your need is less about decision-making than about execution, our outsourced sales leadership engagements run from 1 to 12 months, full-time or part-time.
Scale with confidence
You don’t need another coach.
You need a sparring partner who’s done the job, understands your challenges, and will push you to lead with greater clarity, speed, and impact.
We’re here to help you scale yourself — and your business.
Why choose Atscale?
We are neither a coaching firm nor a consulting firm, but a collective of former sales leaders who are still in the field.
In practice, choosing Atscale for executive sparring partner in your company means:
Including 10+ years in executive leadership roles across high-growth B2B tech.
- A single dedicated counterpart who has held your exact role and knows the operational reality.
- Exclusive focus on high-growth B2B tech—no diluted multi-sector portfolios or generic playbooks.
- A precise object of work: your revenue engine, leaving governance and culture to generalist firms.
- A collective behind your sparring partner: instant access to experts in Sales, CS, Marketing, and RevOps.
- Continuity of service: smooth transition if your needs evolve toward audit, execution, interim management, or training.
Flexible Execution: The weekly cadence works seamlessly on site as well as remote, with most of our engagements alternating between both formats to balance impact and consistency.

Frequently asked questions about
our sparring partner program
What is executive sparring?
It is a regular, confidential setup that connects a leader with an external counterpart to work through the decisions that commit their company. Depending on the provider, it takes the form of coaching centred on mindset, consulting centred on a diagnosis, informal mentoring, or operational sparring led by a peer who has held the same role. What sets them apart is not the principle but the stance of the person opposite you and the nature of what you walk out of the session with.
What is a Sparring Partner in a professional context?
A Sparring Partner is an experienced consultant who acts as a mentor or strategic advisor, helping leaders refine ideas, solve complex problems, and make important decisions.
What are the different types of support available to a leader?
There are four. Coaching works on your mindset through questioning, without handing you the solution. Consulting diagnoses a problem and produces a recommendation. Mentoring passes on a career path informally. Operational sparring puts you in front of a peer who has held your role, who has a view, who gives it and who produces the work with you. The choice depends on your situation: coaching when the issue is your leadership, consulting when you do not know where the problem is, operational sparring when you do know and have to decide fast.
How can a Sparring Partner improve decision-making in my company?
They provide an external perspective, ask challenging questions, and offer alternative solutions, enabling leaders to think from different angles and make more informed decisions.
In what situations is a Sparring Partner most useful?
They are often engaged during periods of growth, organizational change, or major strategic decisions such as expansion, innovation, or crisis management.
How long does the programme last?
Our programme is designed over twelve months, cancellable at any time with four weeks' notice. That duration matches a full cycle: build a plan, roll it out, measure the gaps, correct. Below that, you handle an emergency without changing the trajectory. The short notice period is intentional: it lets you leave as soon as the setup stops adding value, with no negotiation.
Are sessions held on site or remote?
Both, and most of our engagements alternate between the two formats: scoping sessions and high-stakes moments on site, the regular cadence over video. What matters more than the format is consistency: one hour a week, same day and same time, sustained over time, has more effect than an intensive day every couple of months.
What is the difference between executive sparring and executive coaching?
A certified executive coach will not hand you the solution: their job is to help you find your own, through structured questioning and under ethical supervision. Our sparring works differently: we have held your role, we have a view, we give it, and you remain the sole decision-maker. Both approaches are legitimate and sometimes complementary: some of our clients work with a coach in parallel, on topics that are not ours.
What is the difference between a Sparring Partner and a traditional consultant?
A Sparring Partner primarily acts as a conversational and strategic advisor, emphasizing personalized support, while a traditional consultant typically delivers more specific solutions or detailed analyses.
What is management support and how is it different?
Management support targets managers in their team-running role: conducting one-to-ones, activity reviews, individual performance tracking, skills development. It is aimed at front-line managers. Executive sparring works at a different level of decision: segment choices, sales organisation design, investment trade-offs, leadership hires. The two complement each other, but one does not produce the effects of the other.
How do I choose the right Sparring Partner for my company?
It’s important to select someone with sector-specific experience and strategic management skills. Their approach should adapt to your needs and company culture.
Is the sparring confidential?
Yes, without reservation. What is discussed in a session is not shared with your leadership team, your teams or your investors. We also turn down any engagement that would put us in a position of internal arbitration in your organisation. That confidentiality is what makes the whole thing work: without it, you could not bring in the topics that matter, a disagreement with a co-founder, a doubt about a hire, a concern about a number.
Do you also work with leadership teams?
No, and that is a choice. We work one-to-one with a founder, a CRO or a VP Sales on the decisions that concern the revenue engine. The collective dynamics of a leadership team, governance and management culture belong to another profession, which specialist firms practise better than we do. We do, however, work occasionally with the sales managers in your organisation, as part of the same setup.
